Keen to get a monthly massage at affordable prices? Body+Soul editor Eliza Cracknell tried & tested a massage at Massage Envy. Here’s what she has to say.

Nowadays life is all about managing your subscriptions; your Netflix account, your gym membership – now there is a new subscription on the scene and it’s a must for your wellbeing. Say hello to Massage Envy’s subscription massage service that will make sure you’re top-to-toe relaxed every single month. The best bit it makes your regular chill session so much more affordable. Yep, you can get a monthly massage from just $40 for 30 minutes!

How does it work?
You sign up for a yearly or half-yearly package which includes one service – either a massagefacial or stretch session – each month at any location. Then any extra services within that month you pay at a discounted price. And if you don’t use your massage one month, any unused session rolls over to the next. They also take walk-ins.

It’s all about total body care. There are so many benefits of massage, from the muscle tension to overall relaxation for your health and wellbeing that are often caused by the the daily stresses of life.

I headed to the Sydney CBD location to trial a massage (tough gig, I know), and it’s amazing just how relaxing the place is. It’s located on Pitt St which is packed with foot traffic and bustling professionals, but once you walk down the stairs you can actually breathe and feel like you’ve escaped the outside world. Manley says this is the reason why lunchtime is their busiest – the place is a haven within the city for people to simply escape.

“We get so many business people in the CBD who come in on their lunch break. It’s so great for them to just relax for an hour. A lot of people do go to the gym on their lunchbreak but then on Fridays they come to us to end the week to mix it up.”

The massages on offer are relaxation, remedial and deep tissue. I ask my therapist to work on my shoulders and neck (classic office-job problems) and my lower back (which is now sore thanks to an ever-growing 11-month-old). The treatment was extremely personalised and I felt I was in great hands.

If massages aren’t your thing, they also offer facials that use Medik8 skincare a treat everything from anti-ageing and pigmentation to blemishes and breakouts.

What about assisted stretching?

“Our main goal is to stretch you out through assists,” explains my therapist when I ask what the session entails. “How it defers from normal stretching is that sometimes you just can’t reach certain areas. You aren’t relaxed and you are forcing yourself to get there. So what we do is help you reach a deeper stretch in a more relaxed state.”
He recommended the stretch session to people who are physically active or who have heavy labour jobs. I see it as a nice addition to complement those who love to go super hard at the gym.

“Stretching is so underestimated and people don’t think it’s that useful and they usually don’t stretch out long enough and hard enough.”

Wellness programs start at $89 per month for a 12-month program and $109 per month on a 6-month program. An introductory 30-minute massage or facial session is available for $40.
